Tony Liou Speaks About Decarbonization and Achieving Net Zero Goals at NAREIM Architecture & Engineering Meeting

On September 28th, real estate investment, architecture, engineering, and construction leaders gathered for an in-person three-day conference at the NAREIM Architecture & Engineering Meeting in Austin, Texas.

This year, the meeting focused on “climate risk, critical path scheduling, DEI in development and construction, net zero, timber-framed construction, and spontaneous glass breakage from nickel sulfide inclusions, and contractor audits.”

Partner Energy President, Tony Liou, gave his presentation on the second day of the conference, titled  “Net Zero. The role of A&E in executing and achieving Net Zero goals”, with an introduction by Anne Peck of AEW Capital Management and Jerry Speltz of Barings Real Estate Advisors.

In his presentation, Mr. Liou spoke about decarbonization of the electric grid, CRREM pathways for portfolio risk assessment, the impact of legislation aimed at emission reduction, and how to get to Net Zero through the lens of climate risk assessments and evaluations of transitional risk.

Through his presentation and the following Q&A roundtable conversation, he provided an in-depth look into the following topics:

  • How do you provide value at the portfolio and firm-level through the execution of net zero goals?
  • What are the steps to implementing a real estate net zero sustainability plan?
  • Net zero strategies and evaluations, and where the real estate investment market is today.
