The Aquarium of the Pacific is a 90,000 square foot facility located in Long Beach, California. Partner Energy was asked to provide services in order to improve the energy efficiency of the aquarium which is the unique home of 500 different specific of a total of 11,000 wildlife.
With an annual energy consumption of about 1.2 megawatts of electricity. The property is constantly undergoing improvements to improve energy efficiency and reduce consumption and operating costs.
An energy audit was conducted to identify areas of improvement with the boilers and domestic hot water systems and new performance specifications were developed to replace the old boilers with high-efficiency condensing units. The system was re-commissioning and the building energy management system was re-program to optimize performance.
Additionally, the a plan for the procurement of on-site renewable energy systems was developed to implement a 1.2 megawatt fuel cell that will offset approximately 80% of the facility’s energy consumption.
